I am at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, California covering the 25 Hour endurance race for the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge, getting stills and video of the teams and their FR500S Mustangs. Today was a testing day so I was mainly getting driver interviews and did some test photos at dusk. It's been a while since I shot road racing at night, so I wanted to test backlighting at Dusk and using a flash with my 300MM lens. I use a Better Beamer on the flash when shooting with a long lens. The fresnel lens of the Better Beamer increases light output by 2.5 stop in the small area covered by the 180+mm lenses. The light output isn't well distributed , it's a bit hot across the middle, but for auto racing and providing catchlights in wildlife eyes, the Better Beamer is very valuable.
